Blackwater Gold Mine – BC Hydro Grid

The purpose of the Blackwater Gold 230 kV Transmission Line was to connect the Blackwater Gold Mine to the BC Hydro grid.

The scope of work included stringing 926 ACSR conductor, 5/16” OHSW, and 16 mm OPGW. A total of 13 OPGW splices enclosures were installed. Civil works included pad construction, culvert foundations, and earth log anchors.

The wildfires in the area had a significant impact on the work

Which resulted in crews having to relocate from the camp location to the nearby town of Vanderhoof. In addition, the stringing crews being moved to different work locations due to the fire’s proximity to some of the line.

Zero ground access:

Three structures had zero ground access, so foundations were completed by flying in a small piling rig to install helical piles. Poles were also flown in, and structures were framed aerially.

Blackwater was a very challenging, but successful project!

– Brad Kowaski, Manager of Transmission

Victor Energy was able to successfully build the project on time and on budget, despite the rough terrain and environmental restrictions. Blackwater Gold project was finished by September 2024
